Member Spotlight: Davy on Filmmaking, Focus, and Finding Community

By 10 September 2025No Comments

This week, meet Davy Lazare: a freelance film director and filmmaker whose work spans commercials, branded content, and independent projects.

A Director’s Journey

Davy has been freelancing for the past three years. Before that, he spent five years as an in-house director at WPP’s Hogarth agency. There, he worked on campaigns including a TV spot for Ford’s Tourneo Connect. Today, he balances directing with camera work, self-shooting, and editing.

Building on his commercial campaign successes, Davy is now looking to expand his portfolio into television. He is currently pitching his debut series, Why Men Don’t Talk—a balanced and honest exploration of masculinity, connection, and emotional growth, told through the journey of its central character.

Beyond the screen, Davy and his wife recently co-founded Yoga and Pints, a men’s group that blends stretching with honest conversation. The sessions offer a safe space for men to slow down, share, and de-stress — and the idea is already gaining momentum within the Creative Works community through flyers, word of mouth, and local support.

Creative Works: A Space for Focus and Connection

Davy joined Creative Works in July 2025, looking for the right environment to focus on writing his 60-page pilot script. At home, distractions were everywhere—from the fridge and household chores to, as he affectionately admits, his wife. At Creative Works, he has finally found the focus and structure he was looking for.

“The writers group on Wednesday mornings has been incredibly productive. In two hours, I can get through pages of script that would normally take a whole day to finish,” he shares.

Beyond the boost in productivity, it’s the sense of community that has made the biggest impression on Davy. For instance, what began as a spontaneous lunch invitation from a fellow member soon became a regular ritual—and in the process, Davy has discovered potential collaborators for Yoga and Pints, as well as valuable connections in the film industry.

Inspiration and Atmosphere

For Davy, the biggest source of inspiration at Creative Works comes from fellow members. He highlights Jessica and KT, who lead the Write Club, noting how motivating it is to be surrounded by professionals actively working in TV and film, a path he aspires to follow.

The atmosphere, in his words, is “friendly.” “There are no barriers here—everyone’s approachable. I’ve never worked alongside someone in the kitchen without striking up a conversation.”

Rooted in Walthamstow

As a local, Davy had long passed by Creative Works before finally stepping inside. Now, he sees the value it brings: “It’s a great space for those who can afford it, but what stands out is how Creative Works supports the wider community—whether through affordable events or initiatives like ours (Yoga and Pints, he is referring to).”

When it comes to local spots, Davy recommends a nearby independent coffee shop full of parents and babies; when inside the building, he favours his desk in the corner (his own ‘private’ zone with a big screen where he can disappear into his work).

The Final Word: Why Creative Works?

When asked to sum up Creative Works in one word, Davy does not hesitate: Focus.

“You get sh*t done,” he says with a smile. “Lots of places promise networking, but Creative Works delivers it. Real, organic connection happens here.”

For Davy, the people make the space. From staff, especially Amelia and Eleanor, to fellow members, it is the warm welcome and open community that sets Creative Works apart from other coworking spaces.

“On my first day, Amelia and I had a half-hour chat. That warm welcome really set the tone. There’s a genuine effort here to cultivate community, and it shows,“ proclaims Davy.

We are incredibly honoured to have Davy join our Creative Works community. He is a great example of how focus, creativity, and meaningful connections can come together to push boundaries—both professionally and personally. His journey reflects the best of what Creative Works stands for: a place where ambition can thrive alongside genuine community.
