Apprenticeship Success Stories: Savannah & MVP Media

MVP Media is a social enterprise that works with young people to develop skills and create opportunities for careers in the creative industries. We’re proud to say that MVP Media is one of our founding member organisations and the team still utilises the space to this day.

Savannah Imagine Guy started her apprenticeship in September 2020. Jo Vasanth, MVP Media’s CEO, saw that Savannah had the skills, mindset and potential to help take the MVP brand to the next level.

“We felt that we needed to really focus on our digital presence and we’d received the funding we needed to be able to pay someone. We first met Savannah during our Social Media Careers project and she showed real dedication and determination.”

“…while [Savannah’s] attending masterclasses she’s applying what she’s learned in the work environment with us.”

For anyone considering taking on an apprentice, Jo highlights that the process is mutually beneficial, and that BCE’s apprenticeship masterclasses are invaluable.

“The fact that Savannah receives training from Big Creative Education is one of the main reasons as to why we chose to hire her through the scheme. Because while she’s attending masterclasses she’s applying what she’s learned in the work environment with us.”

“Once you really understand how the partnership works, you’ll start seeing the benefits, not only within your company but to the young person that you’ve taken on,” says Jo.

Savannah is MVP Media’s dedicated social media content creator, ensuring that communications are consistently on-brand, well-crafted and creative. She has an artistic eye, says Jo, and is adept at video and promotional content. She was also heavily involved in MVP’s rebrand project and helped shape the organisation’s brand narrative.

“Being a digital native, Savannah understands how social media works, what content will bring more consumers to your site and who to market the content for. She’s also instrumental in organising and planning, as well as finding the right people.”

Creating opportunities for young people

Jo says that two major trends that have accelerated during the pandemic are what inspired MVP to rebrand. “First, there’s the digitalisation – if you’re not part of the change you’re going to be left behind. Second is youth unemployment, which is set to rise.”

“…we’re working with the young people who will be the next makers and shakers. It’s just about making sure that everybody else knows about it!”

On the one hand, MVP Media is going to be much more about digital services, projects and online training (a number of exciting podcasts and interviews are already in the pipeline). The other key focus is on providing employment opportunities for young people.

“We want to give our young people all the possible opportunities, experiences and, importantly, payments. Way too often do we see young people going from one training experience to the next, without getting that first paid step into the industry.”

“We’re helping people develop their portfolios, transferable skills and employment skills. I feel like we’re working with the young people who will be the next makers and shakers. It’s just about making sure that everybody else knows about it!”

Jo says that one of the most positive things to come out of the last 12 months for MVP Media is their apprentice, Savannah. She attends every weekly meeting and has developed an in-depth understanding of how the organisation works.

“We’re so happy with her and want to employ her afterwards!”
