Creative Works Receives Grant to Provide Local Business & Apprenticeship Support

We’re thrilled to announce that Big Creative Community CIC (Creative Works) has received a grant from the Social Enterprise Support Fund. It will enable us to provide free business support to members and free desks to members who take on an apprentice. The funding, which is distributed by Big Issue Impact, will help us to enhance the success and wellbeing of our members and the wider E17 community – including young local learners – by making quality workspace more accessible.  Our recent workspace accreditation from the Local Enterprise Partnership for London (LEAP) also reflects this goal. Funding for the grant is provided by the National Lottery Community Fund.

How we’re planning to use our grant

We’ll be using the funds to provide members with access to free 1:1 business and mentoring programmes, hosted by Dr Yvette Ankrah MBE. We’ll also be running one-off workshops on topics ranging from HMRC and finance to how to negotiate a business contract. It will also allow us to continue to offer a free desk to members who take on an apprentice. Currently, an increasing number of members are working with a BCE apprentice. Our apprenticeship scheme provides learners with opportunities to gain paid experience in the creative industries.

About the Social Enterprise Support Fund

The Social Enterprise Support Fund is providing social enterprises with financial support during the coronavirus pandemic. The proceeds are helping organisations to meet additional demands, adapt the way they operate, introduce COVIS-secure measures and manage cash flow.

Five social enterprise support agencies have united to deliver the £18.5 million fund, Including Big Issue Invest who is one of Creative Works’ key funders.

The project has been made possible thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK. The partnership is one of five The National Lottery Community Fund is supporting as part of its COVID crisis response.
